To Our Valued Clients and Colleagues,

We are in challenging times and uncharted waters. On Monday, March 23, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer issued a stay-at-home order directing the closure of all non-essential businesses to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.  We want you to know that as an insurance business, Detroit Title & Escrow is classified as “essential” leaving our doors open to continue to serve you.

We intend to provide full escrow and title services as we continue prioritizing the health and safety of our phenomenal team and clients. In order to properly adhere to the added measures we must take for our mutual safety, there will be some changes to our services and availability. They are explained in detail below.

Will both locations remain open?  Yes. For now though, visits are by appointment only.

Can my deeds, mortgage and other closing documents be recorded during this time? Potentially. Some county treasurer and register of deeds offices remain open for mail and electronic recordings from industry professionals while remaining closed to visitors. Others have completely shut down during this time. Our team is monitoring offices daily to stay abreast of closures and changes.  If the county your property is in is not open, please rest assured that we will record the document as soon as we are able.

How do I get in touch with the office?  Please call our general phone line at 313-846-5200. If you are working with a processor in particular, you are encouraged to continue to email and dial them directly for the swiftest service possible.

What will be different when I come in for a closing?

  1. All closings will be limited to only those signing.  Guests, agents, brokers, and mortgage company representatives will not be permitted.

  2. Closings must happen at our office or at a pre-approved location.  Detroit Title & Escrow agent reserves the right to refuse a proposed signing location.

  3. The number of parties in our closings will be limited to no more than three, including our assigned notary.  It may be necessary to stagger closing times or dates for buyers and sellers.

  4. If you are sick or feeling ill, please alert our office so that your closing can be rescheduled. The health and safety of you and our team members is of primary importance.

  5. If you prefer a remote closing or require package drop-offs, please contact our office so that we can make accommodations for you.

These are the added measures we are taking in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. As this situation is ever-evolving, there may be unexpected or unavoidable delays. We will do our very best to keep you informed along the way. As ever, our goal and intention is to provide you with the highest quality service we can, in the safest way possible.

Our best wishes to you and your family as we navigate the days ahead together.
